PATTI AND GEORGE (ROOM 216)

When Ringo married Maureen Cox, George quipped, “Two Beatles down, two Beatles to go!”  Little did he realize that he was to be next, leaving Paul as the only eligible bachelor in the group. George met Patti on the set of A Hard Days Night and was very quickly smitten. She played the part of a schoolgirl in the railway carriage scenes but in reality, although only sixteen, she was an established UK model.

They quickly became an item and Patti joined George on many holidays around the world including Ireland, Tahiti, Hawaii and The Bahamas. Then to everybody’s surprise, George married Patti Anne Boyd at the Esher Register Office on January 21st 1966. George had two best men, Paul and Brian.  John and Ringo were caught unawares and were unable to attend as they were away on holiday. They flew to Barbados the next day for their honeymoon, but not before giving a press conference. The reporters had but one question “How did you keep this a secret?” “Simple.” replied George, “we didn’t tell anyone!”

George’s marriage ended when Patti had an affair with one of George’s best friends, Eric Clapton, but the split was amicable all round.  Patti inspired George’s classic song ‘Something’ and she was to have the same effect on Eric’s song writing being the subject of both ‘Layla’ and ‘Wonderful Tonight’.
