LIVERPOOL HOMECOMING (ROOM 213)

Their homecoming as local heroes who had conquered the world was set for July 10th 1964 at Liverpool Town Hall where they were feted by the Lord Mayor with a civic reception, prior to the Northern Premiere of the film at the Odeon Theatre, Liverpool.

Arriving at Speke Airport, since (re-sited and renamed ‘John Lennon International Airport’!) they were greeted by thousands of screaming teenagers. The motor cavalcade took them through the streets of Liverpool on an eight-mile drive, where crowds of a quarter of a million people ecstatically welcomed them home. The group famously waved from the balcony of the Town Hall to the thousands of fans who merely wanted a glimpse of their heroes, who less than a year before were playing 250 yards away at The Cavern Club!

The City was proud of its most famous sons and they were genuinely appreciative of the huge welcome home that their fellow Liverpudlians gave them, a reception John maintained was never bettered anywhere.
