HOLLYWOOD BOWL (ROOM 223)

The Hollywood Bowl, in Los Angeles, was the scene of the Beatles second most famous concerts ever given in the USA. In 1965 they played two gigs on the 29th and 30th August, which were recorded professionally for a possible future live album release. The previous year on August 23rd, Capitol Records had also recorded their performance. The album was in fact released, but not until 12 years later. However, it is an invaluable piece of rock n roll history and captures perfectly the excitement that their performances generated. Although the fans screamed throughout, the recording is excellent and belies the notion that The Beatles couldn’t hear themselves singing and by this time were merely going through the motions. Their performance on this album include rip roaring versions of ‘Twist and Shout’, ‘She Loves You’, and ‘Hard Days Night’ to name but three. This album release was one of the first indications that the legend of The Beatles would continue to grow, as the album shot to number one upon it’s release… a full seven years after the band had split up!
