ARRIVAL IN THE USA (ROOM 202)

Pan Am Flight 101 touched down at JFK airport to a backdrop of cheers and pandemonium never ever before witnessed in America. Fans had been gathering since the previous day to get a glimpse of their new heroes.  Of the Beatles, only George had travelled to the States before and then only to visit his sister Louise. They were hyper and excited and when they saw the reception they naively believed it must be a welcome for the new President or something.  It quickly dawned upon them that it was for them.  They had almost conquered the country before they had even set foot on American soil!

There were over 200 reporters there to greet them and the resulting press conference immediately cemented the Fab Four in the hearts of the media and populace alike.  Irrelevant, witty, sharp, cheeky, young, fresh, good looking and talented, they were a breath of fresh air to a nation still coming to terms with the loss a few weeks earlier of their beloved President . “How do you find America?” “ Turn left at Greenland” advised John!

“There’s a plan in Detroit to stamp out the Beatles!”

“We have a plan to stamp out Detroit” retorted Paul.

“What do you call your haircut?”

“Arthur”. Mocked George.

The Beatles smiled, laughed and joked their way into the American psyche.   This was all before they had even played a note in America.
