SHE LOVES YOU (Room 123)

Less than three weeks after their final Cavern Club performance, ‘She Loves You’ was released, soon becoming the anthem of ‘Beatlemania’. Even today, the refrain ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’ instantly evokes the song. EMI, The Beatles’ record company, initially pressed 250,000 copies—a figure that proved woefully insufficient given the overwhelming demand.

Paul later recalled that early reviews were somewhat disappointing, with critics suggesting the band was struggling for new material. How wrong they were. The British public adored it. The band’s exuberant performance, complete with ‘oohs and head shaking’, sparked unprecedented excitement and hysteria across Britain.

The Beatles’ output was so prolific that many of their hit singles, including ‘She Loves You’, were not included on albums. This single marked their defining moment in conquering Britain; their next would conquer the world.
