HAMBURG (Room 110)

Hamburg, Germany was where The Beatles as a group metamorphosed, from raw amateurs into a hard driving rock n roll machine capable of playing for up to eight hours in a night.  It is impossible to overstate the role that Hamburg played in building the foundations for their future career.  Their first trip was organized by their first manager Allan Williams and followed another four stints in just over a two-year period.  What became known as the Merseysound, should really have been called The Hamburg sound according to John Lennon.

The Beatles were instructed to “mach schau” by one of the club owners, Bruno Koschmeider and the boys duly responded.   Their outrageous banter and spontaneity of their performances soon created a large loyal following.   For months at a time the 5 lads, John, Paul, George, Pete, and Stu would toil through the nights and early mornings of the Hamburg seedy nightclub scene honing their skills, which before long would be unleashed onto an unsuspecting world.
