OLIVIA (Room 503)
Olivia met George in Los Angeles in 1974, where she worked as a secretary at George’s Dark Horse Records company. George had a series of health problems connected to the disintegration of his marriage to Patti and Olivia recommended a visit to Dr Zion Yura, a noted Chinese acupuncturist, who cured him. Their relationship blossomed and she eventually moved into George’s Friar Park mansion in Henley on Thames. She was born, Olivia Trinidad Arias on 14th May 1948 in Mexico but the family moved to California where she was educated at Hawthorne High School. After meeting George they soon became inseparable and planned to marry as soon as his divorce from Patti was finalized. The wedding was initially scheduled for May 1978 but was postponed due to the death of George’s father and they eventually tied the knot on September 2nd 1978. George’s only son, Dhani had been born five weeks earlier on August 1st. Olivia shared George’s spirituality and she later became instrumental in getting the support of the other Beatles wives, Linda, Yoko, and Barbara in raising both awareness and much needed cash for the Romanian Angel Appeal. Indeed she and George tried unsuccessfully to adopt a disabled Romanian orphan, which was blocked by the Romanian Government. She was deeply shocked and overwhelmed by the political situation in Romania, which had resulted in the creation of hundreds of thousands of orphaned children.
Olivia was with George at home in Friar Park when they were attacked in the early hours of Thursday December 30th 1999 by an intruder, Mike Abram (ironically from Liverpool) who had a history of mental illness. Abram repeatedly stabbed George and Olivia saved his life by hitting Abram over the head with a heavy table lamp. George never fully recovered from this ordeal and many blame this on the re-occurrence of his cancer, which was ultimately to claim his life in November 2001. Olivia helped to organise the Concert For George, a wonderful tribute to her husband and continues to look after his estate whilst remaining a devoted mother to Dhani their only child.
